The Café of the Dead

A free-flowing, intimate podcast hosted by three artist friends who meet each week at Café Cempoal de la Calavera Negra, Agricola Street, Halifax. A moody, folklore-steeped café known for its dim light, Oaxacan décor, and walls covered in surrealist murals.

Each episode captures the ambiance of the café itself—cups clinking, low ambient music, the soft hum of late-night patrons—while the trio dives into the kind of conversations artists have when no one is pretending to be sensible.

Skull, Rook, and Barracuda, discuss their own creative struggles, breakthroughs, and half-finished ideas. Often touching on current events, not as news analysis but rather as emotional, symbolic, and cultural interpretations. The hosts explore questions of identity, mortality, morality, ethics, free will and a future untold. All of this is blended together through humorous debate that can spiral into the absurd.
